BYD, a Chinese car maker, has launched its electric vehicle range in Australia and New Zealand in 2022 with the all-electric Atto 3 SUV. By the end of the year, the BYD Atto 3 was the third best-selling EVs in both countries. Now, in February 2023, BYD is offering new Atto 3 owners in New Zealand a special offer of either a complimentary Wallbox charger or a 6-year servicing plan.
The offer is limited to the top two variants of the Atto 3 in New Zealand, the Extended range and the Tachyon edition. The Tachyon edition is not available in Australia, but features dark trims and upgraded seats. The Driven has been keeping a close eye on BYD’s launch in New Zealand since the first shipment in early July.
In January 2023, the BYD Atto 3 was the best-selling EV in New Zealand with 235 deliveries, behind Tesla who delivered 194 EVs. In Australia, BYD has done well since launching and with the imminent launch of the more affordable BYD Dolphin in 2023, it looks to be their best year yet.
Given the lack of affordable all-electric options in Australia, it’s unlikely that similar offers to those offered to new Atto 3 buyers will be offered to Australian customers anytime soon.
