Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is in the process of expanding use of electric trucks to transport components to its manufacturing plants and parts distribution centers (PDCs) in North Carolina, South Carolina, Arizona, Ohio, Michigan and Saltillo, Mexico.
DTNA began integrating Freightliner eCascadia semi-trucks into its operations in the Pacific Northwest in December 2023 and at its Daimler truck manufacturing plant in Santiago, Mexico, in January 2024. The company plans to carry out short-haul operations with Freightliner eM2 box trucks.
These initiatives are part of a strategy to expand electrification in its regional logistics networks by serving its manufacturing plants and PDCs within a 250-mile radius aligned with its supplier landscape, enabling the company to increase efficiency by optimizing truck capacity utilization and multi-stop schedules.
This approach will make use of existing charging infrastructure, such as the Electric Island public charging station in Portland and future facilities including Duke Energy’s Mount Holly Microgrid Center in the Carolinas and Michigan’s Mobility Charging Hub. DTNA also offers electrification support to partners with its Detroit eConsulting services.
