Singapore-based EV components manufacturer ENNOVI has introduced a new ENNOVI-MB2B multi-row board-to-board (BTB) connector platform for EVs with a snap-in design that allows multiple connector units to be stacked together without solder.
This approach enables different pin count requirements to be accommodated via the same basic interconnect platform, without any extra expense or engineering effort, according to the company. The connectors are aimed at electric power steering (EPS) and electronic control units (ECUs) in EVs.
The ENNOVI-MB2B connectors use the company’s 0.4 mm miniPLX press-fit terminals made from a copper alloy that has low levels of contact resistance. Each pin can carry 3 A of current and an optional coating of the company’s IndiCoat plating technology designed to prevent the risk of short circuits and extend operational lifespan.
The connectors are available in board stacking heights from 7 mm to 30 mm. They can have between 1 and 6 rows and incorporate up to 30 contact terminals into each row. They can withstand high levels of humidity, mechanical shock and vibration and support a working temperature range of -40° C to +150° C to meet automotive performance requirements.
“Being able to fit enough interconnect terminal pins into a small space, while not having any excess, is a priority for any of our clients. At the same time, keeping their total cost of ownership down is also vital,” said Ralph Semmeling, Product Portfolio Director at ENNOVI. “Companies want access to off-the-shelf products at attractive price points, but with the inherent flexibility that following a custom-based strategy offers.”
