After a successful year of electric vehicle (EV) sales in Europe, Stellantis is now looking to replicate its success in North America. The Netherlands-based company, formed through a merger between Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot S.A (PSA), is aiming to have over 75 EVs globally by 2030, with global electric vehicle sales of 5 million by that same year.
To kick off its North American EV rollout, Stellantis will be introducing the Ram Promaster BEV, with Amazon as its first fleet customer. The automaker has also opened reservations for its all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup, which will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2024.
In addition, Jeep is also in the midst of an electric transformation after revealing all electric Recon and Wagoneer “S” models, which will be opened for reservations in North America this year.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares believes the company has the technology, products, raw materials, and full battery ecosystem to lead its North American EV rollout. However, as others have found, the aim will be a careful strategic approach.
The automaker will need to move with a sense of urgency as other automakers – legacy and start-up – are looking for their own piece of the North American EV market. With its brand awareness and strong EV momentum, Stellantis is well-positioned to make a big impact in the North American EV market.
